RoType: A Blend of Innovation, Design, and Technology

The RoType keyboard stands out due to its unique properties. With a special film that contains a hidden circuit, it boasts a transparency of 92% and a thickness of only 0.04 mm. The film is highly durable, capable of stretching and curling multiple times without deformation. Encased in a metal casing, the keyboard exudes a sense of technology. The realization of this design was made possible through the use of flexible sensor technology. The keyboard operates via a touch sensor, with commands given by touching different areas, thereby changing the capacitance. The keyboard can be easily connected to a mobile device via Bluetooth. To power off, a user simply needs to double press the button, and the keyboard will automatically roll up.

The RoType project, which began in June 2017 in Shenzhen, China, required extensive research and faced numerous challenges. The material used had to be crimped 10,000 times without deformation. The selection of the motor and the weight of the draw-bar for rolling up were also significant challenges. The team had to ensure that the draw bar would not get stuck and that the end of the storage would be as small as possible.

Despite these challenges, the Royole Corporation team, consisting of Yang Liang, Yang Ying, Liu Shimeng, and Xiao Ping, successfully created a product that is not only unique but also functional. The rollable keyboard is a testament to Royole's innovative technology and its seamless integration into the mobile office environment.

The RoType keyboard has been recognized for its innovation and design, winning the Silver A' Digital and Electronic Device Design Award in 2019.
